About Us

Laura Pettigrew is a composer, arranger and publisher of a wide variety of music, including solo instrumental, piano, choral, band and chamber music in addition to being an accomplished flutist.  Her professional life in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada is comprised of composing, teaching and performing.  Her studio includes all ages and levels of students from beginner to adult.   She performs on a regular basis as a guest artist with the Male Voice Choir, the Chanters and the Regina Ladies Choir who recently premiered “ Saskatchewan ”, commissioned from her in 2005 as a tribute to the Centenary of Saskatchewan.  As public and critical acclaim was so overwhelming, the work was performed again in 2006, wherein she was awarded another commission to write a work for 2007 to celebrate, the choir’s 75th Anniversary.  Further, Laura performs extensively in a chamber duo consisting of flute and harp.

 

Laura is committed to making solo, chamber and ensemble music available to young musicians which has led her to compose and publish new works each year for piccolo, flute, clarinet, saxophone, french horn and flute choir which are performed in Canadian Classes in the regional festivals throughout Saskatchewan as part of the Saskatchewan Music Festival. Works for piccolo and french horn were selected for the Saskatchewan provincial syllabus for 2004/06 and recently for 2007/09.  In addition her piccolo works appear on the Wisconsin State and Festival Lists respectively.

 

Her composition projects in the last three years have included commissions from the Regina Ladies Choir in 2004/05 and again in 2006/07; premiere of “In the Kings Court, The Marketplace” by the Regina Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players 2006 as part of the Festival of New Works Series; premiere of “Enaj” (a commissioned work for Flute & Piano, commissioned by Dr. Thomas Schudel for his wife Jane, then principal assistant flute of the RSO) 2003; commission from Arlene Shiplet, French horn of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, “Cool Breeze” (for French Horn and Piano) published Kendor, 2005.  Laura is available for commissions for instrumental, vocal and ensemble.

 

Laura is an alumna of the University of Regina , (M.Mus. Composition and B.Mus. composition).  She founded and directs the Sounds of Silver Flute Choir who have had the great opportunity to perform for His Royal Highness Prince Charles, the Governor General of Canada and the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.  Laura has served as a sessional lecturer for the University of Regina , Music Department and travels throughout Saskatchewan doing clinics, workshops and adjudicating. She has over the years performed with the ALRY and NFA Flute choirs at NFA conventions under the direction of Amy Rice Blumenthal in addition to working for Amy in the capacity of assistant sessional instructor, flute choir at Wildacres.  Laura has two fabulous sons, Joshua (published poet/musician) and Luke (musician) currently pursuing studies in law.
